BG-II at ICT'08

The BELIEF-II project members were managing the common “BELIEF-II: Global e-Infrastructure” stand during the ICT’08 conference (25-27 November 2008, in Lyon, France), where a.o. the BalticGrid-II materials (including the movie) were presented. More info ...

This booth was jointly organised by a series of e-Infrastructure projects highlighted the value of e-infrastructure technology that links researchers in the EU with those in Africa, Asia and Latin America with dramatic benefits for science and society. The aim of the exhibition was to offer the audience an insight into the benefits of the e-Infrastructures in a global context, showcasing the main achievements worldwide, the main applications and the opportunities of being actively involved in the e-Infrastructure community. The booth ensured that the audience both understands the e-Infrastructures concept easily and is able to personally identify with the advantages that these technologies bring.

The BELIEF-II project has coordinated the following projects to come together in this booth to explain and promote global e-Infrastructures: GEANT2, EGEE-III, EELA 2, 6CHOICE, 6DEPLOY, EU-IndiaGrid, EUAsiaGrid, GLOBAL, GridTalk, BELIEF-II, BalticGrid-II, SEE-GRID-SCI.

These projects represent the full range of actors in this technology: backbone connectivity, grid computing, the data layer (like digital libraries) and services that harnesses the grid. The target audience (from researchers in business and academia or the general public) benefited from the different interactive demonstrations and the information provided at the booth and thus gained a deeper understanding of the benefits of using e-Infrastructure and the grid. An eye catching 10 minute film with tailored 3D animations was shown about e-Infrastructures and their global reach – ideal to show how research can indeed resemble an ‘international village’. There were also some demos running on laptops, for easy comprehension of each individual project and their applications. Information material (CDs, flyers, posters and brochures) were also distributed and displayed.
