The goal of the BalticGrid project is to extend
the European Grid by integrating new partners from the Baltic States
(Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) in the European Grid research community
and to foster the development of Grid infrastructure in these
countries. To this end, the BalticGrid consortium has enlisted the help
of experienced EU Grid computing centers whose aim will be to guide our
new partners through the process of deploying Grid resources and
applications at their respective institutions.

More specifically, the Baltic Grid project aims to:
- develop and integrate the research and education computing and communication infrastructure in the Baltic States into the emerging European Grid infrastructure,
- bring the knowledge in Grid technologies and use of Grids in the Baltic States to a level comparable to that in EU members states with a longer experience in the development, deployment and operation of Grids,
- further engage the Baltic States in policy and standard-setting activities. The integration of the Baltic States into the European Grid infrastructure will primarily focus on extending the EGEE project to the Baltic States.
